Takes

Add a take

You’re not sure about a line, so you try it another way. Add a take and write it in place.

  1. Select the words you want to try another way: a word, a sentence, or the whole paragraph.
  2. Choose Takes ▸ Add Take ⇧⌘E.
  3. Write the new take over the selected copy.

The new take is live. It reads in the draft. The words you started with are kept as the first take.

Another take

With the caret in a take, Takes ▸ Add Take ⇧⌘E adds one more: a copy of the live take, selected, ready to rewrite. Add as many as you like.

Leave the take

When you’re done, choose Takes ▸ Leave Take esc. The caret steps out to just after the take, and you carry on writing.

From the right-click menu

Add Take is on the text’s right-click menu too. With the caret in a take, the menu also has Next Take, Previous Take, Settle Take and Delete Take.
