Open and import files

Your first manuscript is often a draft you already have. Open it, and Manuscript makes a new manuscript from its text.

Open a manuscript

1. Choose File ▸ Open… ⌘O.
2. Choose a .manuscript file.

Import a draft

Manuscript opens .md, .txt, .docx and .rtf files. The prose comes in. Tracked changes in a .docx arrive accepted.

1. Choose File ▸ Open… ⌘O.
2. Choose the file.

The text arrives in a new manuscript, named after the file. The original file isn’t changed, and Manuscript never writes back to it.

The first save asks where to put the manuscript. It suggests the folder the file came from.
