Getting started

Your first manuscript

Start a new manuscript and write. Manuscript keeps it safe as you go.

Start one

  1. Choose File ▸ New Manuscript ⌘N.
  2. Write.

A new manuscript begins on a checkpoint, so there is always a beginning to go back to.

Save it

  1. Choose File ▸ Save ⌘S.
  2. Name the manuscript and choose where it goes.

A manuscript is saved as a .manuscript file. It holds the text, every take and the history. File ▸ Save As… ⇧⌘S saves it under another name.

Close a manuscript before its first save and it asks whether to keep it: Save, Delete or Cancel.

After the first save

You don’t need to save again. When you stop typing for thirty seconds, Manuscript makes a checkpoint and writes the file. Closing the window does the same, and doesn’t ask.

Saving yourself still works. It makes a checkpoint, then writes.
