Headings and the outline

A long piece needs sections. Headings make them, and the outline shows them.

Make a heading

  1. Put the caret in the paragraph.
  2. Choose Format ▸ Heading 1 ⌃⌘1, or another level up to Heading 6.

Format ▸ Paragraph ⌃⌘0 makes a heading a paragraph again.

Change its level

Format ▸ Raise Heading ⌃⌘[ moves a heading one level up, toward Heading 1. Format ▸ Lower Heading ⌃⌘] moves it one level down.

The outline

Choose View ▸ Show Outline ⌃⌘S. The outline lists the headings, the paragraphs under each, and every set of takes.

View ▸ Collapse All closes every row but the top-level headings. View ▸ Expand All opens every row, takes included.

⌘1 goes to the outline. ⌘2 goes back to the text.
